Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2026
This policy explains how personal data is handled on www.julieblaho.com, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679).
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Julie Blaho, Italy. You can contact me at any time about your data by writing to info@julieblaho.com.
2. What data I collect and why
Contact form. When you send me a message I receive your first and last name, email address, subject and message. I use them only to reply to you. Legal basis: your request and my legitimate interest in answering it (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and then deleted, normally within 24 months.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, I collect your email address to send you my newsletter (about once every other month) with a complimentary short story, writing tips and news about my projects. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to me. The newsletter is managed through an email marketing service (Mailchimp, by Intuit Inc.), which processes data on my behalf and may transfer it to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses. Your address is kept until you unsubscribe.
Comments. If you leave a comment on the blog, the name, email address and text you enter are stored, together with your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your email address is never published. If you use a Gravatar, a hashed version of your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to show your profile picture.
Server logs. Like every website, the hosting server automatically records technical data (IP address, date and time, pages requested, browser) for security and to keep the site running. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are kept for a limited period by the hosting provider.
3. Cookies
This website does not use analytics, advertising or profiling cookies. It only uses technical cookies that are strictly necessary: for example, WordPress may set cookies if you leave a comment (to remember your details) or if you log in. No consent is required for strictly necessary cookies.
Fonts are hosted on this website, so no data is sent to Google Fonts when you browse.
4. Links to social networks and other websites
The site contains simple links to Facebook, X and Instagram and to the magazines that published my stories. No data is sent to these services unless you click a link; once you visit them, their own privacy policies apply.
5. Who receives your data
Your data is not sold or shared for marketing. It may be processed only by the technical providers needed to run this site: the hosting provider (Aruba S.p.A., Italy), the email marketing service for the newsletter and the email service used to deliver messages, all acting as data processors.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. To exercise these rights, write to info@julieblaho.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Italy this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
7. Children
Although I write for children, the contact form and the newsletter are intended for adults (parents, teachers, readers). If you are under 14, please ask a parent or guardian to get in touch with me for you.
8. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
